Welcome to the Just Specialties Fine Food Blog written by me, Cathy Schreiber, founder of Just Specialties Fine Food. I create kits for making gourmet desserts at home. I believe that “homemade” is better, but I also know how busy life is. My kits give you the jump start needed to create special homemade desserts without having to first find a recipe you think you’ll like and will work, then run all over town gathering special ingredients and then find time to actually make the dessert. I also believe that it’s important to know how to do things, so I always try to impart a little knowledge along with my kits – so my customers can learn something that maybe they didn’t know before and gain more confidence in their own baking and cooking skills.

I started this blog for several reasons:

1. To support easy two way communication between my customers, potential customers, interested parties and me;

2. To share ideas for how to use our products; and to share recipes and helpful tips about baking in general – especially things you might not see in lots of other places but that can really help you produce terrific “wow” treats for family and friends;

3. To share ideas and game plans for planning parties of all kinds, and, finally

4. To share interesting, primarily food-related travel information and pictures

I went to culinary school at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and worked as a pastry chef in Sydney, Australia and in various locations in the San Francisco Bay Area of California (my home base). I’m a member of The Bakers Dozen, a super great group of baking professionals and enthusiasts; and I’m a board member (past treasurer and incoming president) of the San Francisco Professional Food Society, a group of dedicated food professionals in the Bay Area. My company is a member of the National Association of the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT), and the Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as a registered woman-owned business.

While this is a “business” blog, it’s still very personal to me: I plan and write all of it, I take all of the photos for it (unless otherwise noted!) and it’s inspired by my desire to connect and share with others over the love of food done well, with our hearts and hands. What better gift than to nourish each other with words, deeds and . . . really good dessert.
